I have to say when this was first announced I was one of those that was really questioning what Disney was thinking.    As this begins to unfold  and we get to see more and more of the features this area of Animal Kingdom is going to offer my skepticism is beginning to fade.   It’s not all gone, believe me, as Disney still has a lot to prove in this new area.  And if you notice Disney Parks Blog hasn’t yet called it Avatar Land, but an Avatar-Inspired Land, hmmm.    I am still a bit more excited about the fact that we will be able to spend more time at the park into the night and can’t wait to see all the amazing lighting.  Are you getting excited about the Avatar-Inspired Land?

Check out the latest video of the area as they break ground….

The Land – Gingerbread Tribute to Disney Parks

The Land – Gingerbread Tribute to Disney Parks

Throughout the Disney property there are many Holiday displays with lots of different ways to use gingerbread.   One our favorite finds this year is the Tribute to Disney Parks and Resorts from around the world on display in The Land pavilion at Epcot.

The Display is located between the Circle of Life entrance and the Garden Grill Restaurant.    Below is a short tour of this display.

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Cat

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Cat

Did you know this Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia about the Cat in the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights?

It’s a beautiful time of year at the parks, this past Saturday we spent some time under a heavy downpour admiring the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.   As we neared the entrance to Lights Motors Action we spotted this years hiding spot for the Osborne Cat.   Did you ever wonder why this cat is in a Christmas display?

As you know the Osborne family started the light tradition in 1986 with only 1,000 red lights.   The display grew to 3 million lights in 1993, because of the size of the display and the crowds it caused the family was faced with court battles to shut it down.   Luckily Disney approached the family about bringing the display to the parks and now at over 5 million lights we all get to enjoy it every year.

But, what about this cat, well when the trucks loaded up the display a cat from the Osborne’s Halloween display was mistakenly loaded.     The team at Disney was prepared to send it back to the Osborne’s but the family said just to keep it and rather than throw it out the team at Disney decided to have some fun and hide the cat in a different spot each year.

Can you spot the cat?

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: The Seas with Nemo and Salt

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: The Seas with Nemo and Salt

Did you know today’s Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia About The Water in the Seas with Nemo and Friends?

Do you add a little salt to your meal, how about a truck load?   The Seas with Nemo and Friends (formally The Living Seas) takes a lot of water and salt to keep the Friends happy.   But how much, let’s take a guess.

To get the water prepared how many truckloads of salt was required???

A. 10
B. 17
C. 22
D. 27

The Seas with Nemo Salt

The recipe called for  27 truckloads of sodium chloride, or common table salt.   Just a tad bit more than what comes on your fries.   And some other fun facts, spaceship earth could fit inside the aquarium with room to spare.   It is 203 feet in diameter, 27 feet deep and holds 5.7 million gallons of salt water.    As you look in at the over 8,000 fish and other sea animals you are looking through 6 to 8 inches of acrylic windows.   And, to keep all the friends fed they go through over two tons of food each week, yes each week.

Fastpass to History: Theater in the Wild

Fastpass to History: Theater in the Wild

We all love Finding Nemo the Musical in Animal Kingdom’s Theater in the Wild, but do you remember what was in this theater before Nemo?

Tarzan Rocks

Originally an open-air amphitheater, that means no AC folks, the Theater in the Wild has been home to 3 fun filled shows.

  • From opening day of Animal Kingdom until July 1999 (just over 1 year), the theater was the home to Journey into Jungle Book.   Featuring, of course, song and characters from the classic movie the Jungle Book.
  • Jungle Book was replaced by Tarzan Rocks, which ran in the theater until Jan 2006.   Tarzan Rocks did just that, it Rocked with performers singing many of our favorite Phil Collins songs from the animated feature.   The show was filled with amazing aerial trapeze and in line skating acrobatics.
  • Jan 2007 until today the Theater is presenting – Finding Nemo the Musical.    Based on the hit animated movie, this must-“sea” adventure makes a splash with spectacular music and stunning theatrical puppetry.

Which of these shows did you get to see?   Which one is your favorite?   Leave a comment and let us know…..

Jingle Cruise

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Cruise….. Yes, I know we haven’t finished trick or treating or carving the turkey yet, but it’s exciting to announce the first ever Holiday makeover at Walt Disney World.   Beginning in early November, Jungle Cruise at both Disneyland park and Magic Kingdom Park will temporarily transform into “Jingle Cruise” for the holiday season!  Ho! Ho! Ho!

Jingle Cruise

The Jungle Cruise will be transformed with a new seasonal story line centered around the Skippers receiving some festive decorations from home as they are homesick around the holidays.   Boats will be renamed and be prepared for a new batch of corny, I mean hilarious, jokes to help get you into the Holiday spirit.    Listen carefully as you pass through the Jungle as you just may hear one of your favorite holiday songs playing somewhere in the distance.    The fun will debut on Nov 8 at the Magic Kingdom and Nov 12 at Disneyland.

How excited are you for the first ever Holiday makeover at the Magic Kingdom?
