Hidden Mickey Monday: The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Hidden Mickey Monday: The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Our Hidden Mickey this week was found the Magic Kingdom after riding The Magic Carpets of Aladdin.   After everyone is seated the Cast Member walks around the ride and then goes into the control booth.   Next time you are exiting the ride, look into the control booth at the emergency lighting.   There it is!    A 3D Mickey.   Where did you find a Hidden Mickey?

Our Favorite Food This Week: Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp
Location: Yak and Yeti (Animal Kingdom)
Price: $26.99

As you run from Kilimanjaro Safaris to Expedition Everest you may spot the Yak and Yeti restaurant.  Stop in and give it a try.   On our last visit I ordered the Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp which was described as a skirt steak (though I rather call it a kilt), tempura battered shrimp, jasmine rise, stir fried veggies and a chili plum dip.

The steak was good quality and cooked exactly as I had ordered.  It was an overall tasty dish which I would order again.   Yak and Yeti opened its doors in 2007 and is owned and operated by Landry’s Restaurants owners of Rainforest Cafe, TRex, and many more.

Fastpass to History: Wonders of Life

The Wonders of Life pavilion opened their doors in October of 1989, seven years after the opening of Epcot Center and as New Years was being celebrated and welcoming in 2007 it closed it doors.   Today it is used off and on for special events, one of these is during the Flower and Garden Festival, so you can still get a peek inside during these events.

Wonders of Life

The pavilion was dedicated to Body and Healthy style attractions.   Including the following:

  • Body Wars – this was the main reason we would visit the pavilion.   Body Wars was similar to Star Tours at Hollywood Studios.  The same ride system so over the past years parts have been used as replacements for Star Tours.  The ride shrinks you down and puts you into the body to help do a white blood cell count at the location of a splinter.   But, the doctor is pulled into the blood stream which sends you on a journey through the blood stream and into the lungs.  Finally the team has to head to the brain to gain energy to repower the ship so you can leave the body.
  • Cranium Command – this was a fun theater style show which explained the brain and it’s interactions with different parts of the body.
  • The Making of Me – was a Martin Short movie about birth. Although funny, as a kid this was not on my must see list.
  • There were also many play areas including my favorite the Wonder Cycles where you could pedal power a TV.   Yep you would pedal a bicycle and the TV would come on, what kid wouldn’t find that cool.   I really worked up a sweat.

I still miss Wonders of Life and wonder what attractions from the pavilion do you miss most?

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: Wait, am I outside the park?

What attraction at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is entirely outside the park (outside the train tracks)???  Hmmm think hard.   Have you ever ridden the train and sat on the left side, don’t see much, do ya?    Except after you leave the New Fantasyland station… wait for it…..wait for it….. There it is, Space Mountain.   Don’t believe me, take a look at the Google Image Map Below.

Space Mountain Outside

The attraction went through many different design changes before the current layout was selected.   Originally it was supposed to be in the southern portion of Tomorrowland similar to Disneyland’s placement.  What ended up there?   You guessed it, the Carousel of Progress.   So now, to reach the attraction we travel through the star corridor which is actually an underground tunnel taking us under the train tracks and technically outside the park.

Hidden Mickey Monday: Epcot Japan Koi Pond

Hidden Mickey Monday: Epcot Japan Koi Pond

While looking for Hidden Mickey’s be sure to look up and down as you walk through the parks.   We found the one below in the Koi pond at Epcot in the Japan pavilion.  On our last few trips we have really enjoyed this area and love watching the large and small Koi that inhabit the pond.   But look close at the drain in the pond, notice anything familiar?
